The NYNO Mentorship Program connects high school students with mentors in neuroscience, psychology, medicine, and related scientific fields to help students explore academic and career interests in a supportive environment. Participants may be paired with college students, pre-med and graduate students, researchers, or other mentors involved in neuroscience and healthcare-related fields. Through mentorship, students can gain guidance on academics, career exploration, leadership, research interests, competition preparation, and personal projects related to neuroscience and mental health.
The program is designed to encourage learning, collaboration, and meaningful connections between students and mentors while making neuroscience more accessible to younger learners. Mentorship opportunities may include virtual meetings, group discussions, workshops, Q&A sessions, and academic support activities depending on program availability and partnerships.
Additional details regarding mentor pairings, meeting structure, scheduling, expectations, and communication guidelines will be shared with accepted participants after registration.

The NYNO Outreach Program is a student-led initiative focused on bringing neuroscience and mental health education into local communities in an engaging, accessible, and interactive way. The program gives high school students the opportunity to act as science communicators by teaching younger students and community members about the brain, behavior, mental health awareness, and basic neuroscience concepts in simple and meaningful ways.
Participants may organize and lead outreach activities such as school workshops, interactive brain demonstrations, mental health awareness events, neuroscience activity stations, or presentations at libraries, community centers, or partner schools. These events are designed to make neuroscience approachable and exciting for younger audiences while also helping NYNO participants develop leadership, communication, and teaching skills.
Students involved in outreach may work in teams to plan events, create educational materials, design presentations, and adapt complex neuroscience topics into age-appropriate learning experiences. The program also encourages creativity in how neuroscience is taught, including games, visuals, hands-on activities, storytelling, and interactive discussions.
Volunteer hours may be awarded for approved outreach activities, planning work, and event participation, depending on program guidelines. NYNO may also provide templates, training resources, and support materials to help students successfully design and run their own events.
Because outreach activities can vary by location and partnership opportunities, details regarding event approval, volunteer hour tracking, supervision requirements, and participation guidelines will be provided after registration.
There will be many opportunities for this outreach program, including starting a school chapter, pitching mental health awareness events, volunteering with us at competitions and mental health awareness events, and recommending any ideas to raise awareness about mental health, psychology, or neuroscience. With these ideas, we will contact you and support you in any way we can to help these ideas come to life, and to help you make a difference in your community. Sign up below to start a chapter, pitch ideas, or join this organizations and volunteer with us. You can sign up for more than one of these opportunities as well.

The NYNO Student Publication Program gives students a platform to explore and share ideas in neuroscience, psychology, and mental health through writing and creative communication. Participants can submit articles, research explainers, opinion pieces, educational essays, interviews, and reflections designed for both scientific and general audiences. The program aims to encourage scientific literacy, critical thinking, and accessible science communication while helping students develop their voices as young advocates and leaders in neuroscience. Selected works may be featured on the NYNO website, digital magazine, blog, or seasonal student publication.
Student Publication Program Guidelines:
Your work will be checked over and edited my us free of charge. You will be informed of any edits made and will be able to dispute them if you do not agree with the edits. You will be informed when your article has been published as well, and where you can find it.

The NYNO Speaker Series & Webinar Program is designed to connect students with professionals and experts in neuroscience, psychology, mental health, medicine, and related scientific fields through live talks, discussions, and interactive virtual events. The goal of the program is to give students direct exposure to real-world experiences, research pathways, and career journeys while making neuroscience more accessible beyond textbooks and classroom learning.
Sessions may feature neuroscientists, psychologists, medical professionals, graduate researchers, university professors, healthcare workers, and other individuals working in science and mental health fields. Speakers may share their personal academic journeys, current research, clinical experiences, or insights into different careers within neuroscience and medicine.
Each event typically includes a presentation followed by a Q&A segment, allowing students to ask questions, engage in discussion, and learn more deeply about specific topics. Webinars may also focus on skill-building areas such as research methods, study strategies, mental health awareness, scientific communication, and pathways into neuroscience and healthcare careers.
NYNO may host both live virtual webinars and recorded speaker sessions to ensure accessibility for students across different time zones and schedules. Some sessions may also be collaborative, featuring panel discussions or themed events with multiple speakers.
Because the program depends on guest availability and partnerships, the schedule, speaker lineup, and session topics will be announced periodically. Additional participation guidelines, event access information, and registration details will be shared with students after they join the program.
