Track A: Core Neuroscience Challenge

Overview:

  • A neuroscience competition where students advance through structured rounds based on performance. Instead of separate case and lightning rounds, students progress through elimination-style stages, with only advancing students completing the final challenge round.

Format:

  • Tournament-style progression
  • Each round filters teams toward the final stage

Round 1: Neuroscience Knowledge (All Teams)

  • Format: Multiple choice + short answer
  • Topics:
    • Brain anatomy and function
    • Neurotransmitters and signaling
    • Neurological and psychiatric disorders
    • Cognitive psychology fundamentals
  • Establish foundational ranking and determine which students advance.
  • If there is a tie, timing will be taken into consideration.

Round 2: Advanced Application Round

  • Only top-performing students from Round 1 advance
  • Format: mixed reasoning + applied neuroscience questions
  • Focus areas:
    • Interpreting symptoms and patterns
    • Connecting brain systems to behavior
    • Applied problem-solving in neuroscience contexts
  • Test deeper understanding beyond memorization.
  • If there is a tie, scores from Round 1 will be taken into consideration.
